Wolverine

Wolverine has definitely turned into a lonely beast. He never really trusted anyone but the world's lunacy has now had him lock himself in. He spends his days in a dressing gown, trying to read classics. Yet he is mostly irked by novels: Austen sends poisonous darts in a jungle of futile rules, Zola's tiresome castles always end up collapsing... Essays are even worse, as they try to understand a meaningless world. Now Wolverine longs for fresh air, but he restrains himself: humanity can die in rivers of blood, he won't try to help anymore, thank you very much. He once was a superhero but he has learnt that crowds' gratefulness is a one-day flower, then you go back to feeling different and unwelcome. So he plays video games and puts on weight. Then one day he gets a letter.

Gonçalo

Gonçalo has got that cold again. Every winter brings it back. So Gonçalo barely gets out of bed and, when he does, wraps himself in many layers of wool. Then he waits for the cold to disappear, for he cannot work : Gonçalo is a Nose for a French perfume company. He gets terribly bored, surfs aimlessly on the Internet or sleeps all day for a week. Then one day the chemist around the corner tries to talk him into buying yet another new drug for his cold. Gonçalo hardly listens to the talkative girl but takes the drug out of boredom. Yet, to his great surprise, the cold is gone in two days. Gonçalo goes back to the chemist's to thank her and, without thinking, asks her out for dinner. The next night, he finds out she is not only a talkative brunette but a very lively one too. When morning comes, he is terribly tired and in love, even though she smells a bit of clove.

Sagar

Sagar has always loved girls stuff. As a child, he used to sneak into his mother's bedroom and put on her underwear. He also borrowed her high-steel shoes and walked the long corridor, watching himself in the large mirror at the end. When he got thirteen, he told his mother he wanted to be a drag queen. He got slapped in the face. So he started dating girls. Meanwhile, he was brilliant at school, went to university, where he chose Aesthetics and Non-Euclidian Geometry. He got a PhD fairly easily in both fields. By then, he dated boys and girls alike. He is now fifty-two and he happily goes from one person to the other. Whatever their gender, he usually makes up when he goes out, and dresses terribly. He is also famous in the small world of mathematics for his theory on Unreal Intersections between Disjoint Vector Spaces. Sagar truly enjoys being utterly queer.

Delta !

Guillermo

Guillermo came from Guadalajara in a rusty old steamer. He came to the big city to get as rich as Steve Jobs. Yet for the time being, he is a waiter at Pepe's Pizzeria, along a dusty avenue, and Steve Jobs is dead. But Guillermo does not know, as he won't read a newspaper. All day long, he serves away Reginas, Vesuvios and Pineapple-Chorizo Specials. Meanwhile, he gets stronger and stronger, as he only eats pizzas and walks a lot. He once computed that he walks 20 miles a day, from the kitchen booth to the terrace and back. Then, even when he is tired after work, he goes to the boxing club. He now has rope-like legs and a powerful punch. The problem is he often goes berserk on the ring, and gets fined because he bites his opponents. One day, he even tears an ear away from a sluggish guy and eats it. He gets fired from the club and the Federation. That's when he turns Vesuvio himself and gets into cage fighting.

Ferdinand

Ferdinand quit thugging a few years ago. He got fed up with the routine: stirring up his nerves with beer, then dark streets, blows and victims' cries. Women were especially annoying, with those loud, shrieking voices, and all the same despair. It ended being incredibly boring. So Ferdinand is now an accountant in a local bank in Finland. On Sundays, he goes fishing or jogs in the forest for hours. Yet sometimes he longs for action. Then he takes the train to Helsinki and hangs around the station at dusk, with a bicycle chain in his pocket.
